Pregnancy requires special attention to diet to promote fetal development. Food supplements are often recommended to avoid nutritional deficiencies. Tea consumption raises questions; more than three cups a day and a caffeine intake of 200 to 400 mg could be linked to fetal anomalies. During the first trimester, excessive consumption may impair folic acid absorption, increasing the risk of miscarriage and malformations. Some studies also show that tea may retard fetal growth in the third trimester. Pregnant women are therefore advised to limit their tea consumption and consult their doctor about appropriate nutritional practices, thus ensuring the safety and well-being of both mother and child.
